Bridgend County Borough Council is currently investigating potential development aims to provide enhanced sporting facilities for local community groups, clubs, and students.
A report scheduled for review by the council’s Cabinet on 22 September outlines plans for a 3G facility featuring LED floodlighting, fencing, cross-field goals, and a specialized shock pad surface.
This initiative serves as a direct response to the growing need for artificial playing surfaces throughout the county borough, a demand that becomes particularly acute during the winter season.
To secure the necessary backing for the project, the Council has been collaborating with various sporting bodies, funding partners, and local schools.
Conditional grants of £241,473 from the Cymru Football Foundation and £150,000 from Sport Wales have been secured following successful applications. Should the project move forward, this external financial support would eliminate the need for a capital contribution from the Council.
If the proposal receives approval, the facility will be utilized by the school during standard hours, while remaining accessible to the wider community on weekends, during school holidays, and after the school day concludes.
Future management plans for the site will incorporate provisions for ongoing maintenance, as well as a dedicated fund specifically earmarked for eventual resurfacing.
This proposal follows the successful completion and opening of a similar pitch at Bryntirion Comprehensive School.
