Jacob Bridgeman enters his Presidents Cup debut this week as a two-time PGA Tour winner following a commanding two-stroke victory at the Biltmore selected by captain Brandt Snedeker to represent Team USA against the International Team at Medinah, erased a five-shot deficit during a high-scoring final round in Asheville, North Carolina.
The world No 29 surged through the leaderboard by recording an eagle and eight birdies in a bogey-free 61 at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove, finishing at 26 under and two shots ahead of fellow American Ben James, who also carded a 61.
“It is a dream come true,” Bridgeman said about representing Team USA. “There is so much individualness in this sport, but to be able to play as a team and the United States is just amazing. Everybody is pumped. It’s getting really real. We’re all getting super excited!”
Overnight leader Neal Shipley finished three strokes behind in a tie for third with Ricky Castillo, while JT Poston narrowly missed a ’59 round’ as he moved into a share of fifth place alongside Jackson Koivun, who is also set to compete in the Presidents Cup.
“At the end of the day it was a great round of golf, a new career low out here,” Poston said, having two-putted from 25 feet to par his final hole as he carded a 60. “As much as I would like to shoot that magical 59 number, which I’ve never done, there are so many positives to take away.”
Ireland’s Seamus Power finished six shots back in a tie for seventh, while England’s Marco Penge—who notably missed the DP World Tour’s BMW PGA Championship—secured a share of 10th place following a final-round 67.
