Standardized preparation of blood-derived cellular samples serves as the foundation for reproducible liquid biopsy, digital cytology, and AI-assisted cell analysis. Tethis S.p.A., MACS S.r.l., and Everex S.r.l. announced today that they have completed the transfer of the See.d® software and engineering business unit from MACS to Tethis. This transition is accompanied by a long-term manufacturing and supply agreement, under which Everex will provide support for the platform’s production and future scaling.
The See.d platform acts as the cornerstone of the liquid biopsy workflow at Tethis. Originally developed in development and commercialization of the platform. Everex, an Italian manufacturer and developer of in-vitro diagnostic instrumentation, will assist with the system’s ongoing production and scale-up as market adoption increases.
The technology has been subjected to rigorous technical and clinical evaluations, including a clinical feasibility study conducted at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO) in Milan. Currently, See.d instruments are utilized in research programs at institutions such as ETH Zurich, Weill Cornell Medicine, and Sheba Medical Center, where the platform aids in advanced workflows for the characterization of circulating tumor cells.
“This acquisition is an important strategic step for Tethis,” said Holger Neecke, Chief Executive Officer of Tethis. “By bringing the See.d technology and engineering expertise fully in-house, we gain greater control over a key component of our liquid biopsy workflow. Together with MACS and Everex, we have established a strong foundation to further develop and expand the platform.”
“We are pleased that the See.d business unit is entering its next phase within the organization that has driven its scientific application over recent years,” said Andrea Eugeni, Chief Executive Officer of MACS. “The platform is the result of a successful collaboration between our teams, and we are proud of what has been achieved together. Bringing the technology and expertise into Tethis ensures continuity of <a
“We are excited to expand our collaboration with Tethis and support the future growth of See.d,” said Lorenzo Balli, Chief Executive Officer of Everex. “With deep expertise in the development and manufacture of in-vitro diagnostic instruments, industrialization, and regulated production, Everex is well positioned to support reliable manufacturing and future scale-up as adoption of the technology grows.”
About See.d®
See.d is an automated pre-analytical blood processing platform designed to standardize liquid biopsy workflows by producing both cellular preparations and plasma from one blood sample. The system automates red blood cell lysis, plasma separation, and the deposition of nucleated cells onto proprietary SmartBioSurface® slides from Tethis. This supports the integrated analysis of immune cells, circulating tumor cells, cell-free DNA, and other biomarkers derived from blood.

About Tethis
Tethis S.p.A. is a diagnostic and life sciences company that develops innovative workflows for cellular analysis and high-quality sample preparation, with a specific focus on integrating liquid biopsy into clinical practice and research. The company’s SmartBioSurface® slides utilize a proprietary nanostructured titanium coating to enable gentle and efficient adhesion of suspension cells, facilitating applications such as multiplex assays, multimodal single-cell analysis, and imaging. When used with the See.d® instrument—which standardizes blood sample preparation to maintain integrity and quality while enabling comprehensive, AI-driven analysis of suspension cells—the platform supports the high-sensitivity characterization and identification of rare cells and immune cells, including circulating tumor cells. The company is based in Milan, Italy.
MACS S.r.l. (Medical Advanced Components & Systems) specializes in in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) and develops software and hardware technologies for medical diagnostic devices. The firm creates advanced systems and components for biomedical instrumentation, integrating expertise in automation, biotechnology, computer science, Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), and embedded software. MACS is headquartered in Rome, Italy.
